IUPHAR is happy to announce the launch of the World Smart Medication Day that will be held on the 6th of May yearly to foster clinical pharmacology development and raise awareness on the safer and more effective use of drugs.
Unsafe medication practices and medication errors are a leading cause of injury and avoidable harm in healthcare systems worldwide. Clinical Pharmacology is a key discipline for managing these drug-related problems. Countries are encouraged to carry out joint actions and activities on May 6th to highlight the importance of safe and rational use of drugs such as: educational seminars/webinars, hospital events/stalls, grand rounds, communication and dissemination of the WHO Global Patient Safety Challenge material.
A poster competition, open to all medical, pharmacy or pharmacology students, will be organized as part of this initiative. The theme of the poster competition is: The third WHO Global Patient Safety Challenge: Medication Without Harm. Posters can be created through any medium (digital, illustrated, hand-drawn/painted) but must be submitted digitally to your national pharmacological society.
The NVKFB also participates in this competition. Posters from the Netherlands can be submitted to the NVKFB via NVKFB@radboudumc.nl.
Deadline for submission to national society: entries must be submitted before the 6th of April 2021.
National winners selection by national societies: 16th April 2021.
